SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

One of Detroit's own is a finalist in the Hawaiian Tropic "New Face" contest.

Kylie Spears was voted into the top five. She's in the running to win a trip to Hawaii and become the next spokesperson for Hawaiian Tropic.

Spears says she's used Hawaiian Tropic since she was a child, and she'd love to have the opportunity to promote the brand. "I'd also get to meet a bunch of new people," Spears said. "I already have. To get to do it for another year would be amazing."

Hawaiian Tropic replaced its bikini competition with a contest to find a woman who embodies confidence, beauty and style. If Spears wins, she'll travel the country, spreading the word about the importance of skin protection.

"They're taking it from a bikini contest to finding someone who possesses everything that the brand wants in a spokesperson," Spears said.

Spears is Michigan State University graduate. She now works in marketing for the city of Detroit.
