The Anoka County sheriff and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating two serious crashes that shut down Highway 65 near East Bethel, Minn. on Thursday and Friday mornings.
DEADLY CRASH THURSDAY
Anoka County deputies were called to the intersection of Highway 65 and 181st Avenue NE around 11 a.m. where they found one person dead and four others injured in a crash involving a flatbed truck and car.
The flatbed truck, hauling a skid loader, was southbound on Highway 65 when a Pontiac Grand Prix tried to cross directly into its path onto westbound 181st Avenue. The truck hit the passenger side of the car, killing the front seat passenger – a 34-year-old woman from East Bethel.
The driver of the car, a 32-year-old woman from East Bethel, was airlifted to HCMC in critical condition. Her backseat passenger, a 13-year-odl girl, was taken to Mercy Hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the flatbed truck and his passenger were taken to Unity Hospital in stable condition.
FRIDAY MORNING CRASH
At about 6 a.m. Friday, two vehicles were involved in a crash on Highway 65 at 237th Avenue that took down power lines and closed the road.
The Anoka County sheriff would only confirm that one victim was airlifted to the hospital.
The power company was at the scene of the crash Friday morning to work on the downed lines.
