Silver thief hits two more homes in Buckhead

ATLANTA -

Atlanta authorities say a silver thief has struck yet again. Police say there were two more burglaries of silver in Buckhead over the past 24 hours.

Residents who own silver are nervous; they want to know how the thief knows which homes to target.

On Wednesday, FOX 5's Morse Diggs reported on the theft of a silver desert piece valued at $40,000. That burglary took place on Garraux Road.

Police said that a home on Broadland Road was struck on Wednesday and a house on Mornington Drive was hit on Thursday.

Authorities said that they know these are not just random thefts because the crook passes up other items to get the silver.

Greg Norred of the security firm Norred & Associates says the thief usually has a connection to the property.

"One of the things I think homeowners should do is they should make sure anybody that is going to work on their property has some type of background check conducted before that person is allowed," said Norred.

The security specialist says to make sure that alarm systems are connected with a backup in case the thief cuts your phone line.
