THURSDAY: Heat Advisory in effect, severe weather possible - KMSP-TV

SEVERE WEATHER: Potential rumbles Thursday night

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

The best chances for severe weather tonight will stay north of the metro, but the building heat and humidity could put the Twin Cities at slight risk for severe storms Thursday night.

THURSDAY OUTLOOK

The Storm Prediction Center has shifted the slight risk for severe weather slightly further south to include the entire metro area.

While the metro is on the edge of the greater severe chances, the current large cap, or lid, on the atmosphere could hold strong through the evening hours before some storms roll in from the Dakotas toward and after the midnight hour. If these storms can use what's available to them in the atmosphere and pull the lid completely off, conditions are favorable for a small-scale storm outbreak, especially north of the metro.

The largest threat that comes with these storms appears to be high winds of 50 to 70 mph. Large hail and even an isolated tornado also have the potential to develop if storms are more isolated in nature.
