14 cattle swiped from Swift County barn

BENSON, Minn. (KMSP) -

The BCA has issued a crime alert in connection with a group of 14 missing cattle from a Swift County barn.

The Swift County Sheriff's Department was alerted to a mix of missing Holstein, red dairy and black steers who were originally with a group of 82 in a dirt pen at Web Livestock Exchange located on 235 20th Street NW in Benson, Minn.

The lock to the barn had been cut with a bolt cutter and it appeared the cattle were loaded into a fifth-wheel trailer, not into a semi truck, the crime alert says.

The cattle had been brought from multiple sellers and put into one pen at Web Livestock Exchange. Police do not know what type of identifiers are on the cattle.

The crime alert says there were two truckers in the lot from 11:30 p.m. July 15 until 6:30 a.m. July 16 waiting to load their semis. When the truckers loaded cattle in the morning, they only counted 68 and alerted the sales barn owner.
