A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a car while crossing a north Minneapolis intersection Thursday night.
The Hennepin County medical examiner says Manuel M. Steeber, 37, died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries.
According to Minneapolis police, Steeber was trying to cross Olson Memorial Highway at James Avenue N. around 9:40 p.m. when he was hit by the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car stopped and was questioned by investigators Thursday night.
Friday afternoon, police said they are "looking into the possibility" Steeber was struck by a second driver who left the scene of the accident.
Accident reconstruction is underway, but it could take weeks to complete. Two homicide investigators have been assigned to the case.
The speed limit on that stretch of Olson Memorial Highway is 40 mph.
