Mariah Carey Central Park concert

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Grammy-award winning singer Mariah Carey was scheduled to make a special appearance at Saturday night's All-Star Charity Concert on the Great Lawn in Central Park.

The concert was to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts and was free for anyone who was able to land enough tickets.   Organizers expected nearly 60,000 people to fill Central Park's Great Lawn.

Major League Baseball will make a $1 million donation to the Robin Hood Foundation in connection with the event.

"Because baseball at the very end of the day is a member of the community that the team exists in and in every community where we do an all-star event, we try to aid the community the best way we can," said Tim Brosnan, Executive VP, Business.

Former Yankees manager Joe Torre was also to make a special appearance by reading a classic baseball poem.

Fans were originally supposed to register for the free tickets online but Fox 5 was told anyone who showed up at the gates would be allowed in the concert.

The NY Philharmonic was to perform songs from the baseball classic movie "The Natural."

Six people were indicted Wednesday in an international ring that managed to take over more than 1,000 StubHub users' accounts and fraudulently buy tickets to such prime events as Jay-Z and Elton John concerts, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game and Broadway shows like "The Book of Mormon," the Manhattan district attorney said. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the thieves would then resell the tickets and split up the proceeds.
