Longtime All-Star Game hosts Joe & Tim making history

Posted: Updated:

This year's MLB All-Star Game will be Tim McCarver's final All-Star broadcast. Joe Buck and Tim McCarver have called more All-Star Games together than any other broadcast duo in the history of the sport.

Just a day away from the first pitch of MLB's All-Star Game, two of its announcers are celebrating making a little bit of their own history.

Joe Buck and Tim McCarver have called more All-Star games together than any other broadcast duo in the history of the sport.

On his own, Joe is readily known as one of sports' premier play-by-play broadcasters. A seven-time Emmy Award-winning, Joe is the first play-by-play announcer to handle lead MLB and NFL coverage in the same year since NBC's Curt Gowdy and ABC's Al Michaels.

You might not know that he began his national play-by-play career in the NFL ON FOX broadcast booth, where he worked from 1994-1997. Buck's impressive MLB ON FOX resume includes the 1996, 1998 and 2000-2012 World Series, the 1997, 1999 and 2001-2012 All-Star Games.

And, Tim. He's no slouch himself.  He's only regarded by many as baseball's premier television analyst. Tim serves as MLB on FOX's lead game analyst, teaming with play-by-play announcer Joe.

Tim's taken home won three straight Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Sports Event Analyst" from 2000 to 2002 and was the 2012 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award recognizing excellence in baseball broadcasting. He's also the only network television baseball analyst to broadcast the last 24 regular and postseasons.

But, in talking to Good Day Atlanta's Ron Gant, you'll see that despite these later-than-life accomplishments, Tim and Joe are just two regular guys who love sports -- a lot!
