DeMarcus Ware & Wes Welker: We Are Challenging And Raising Awareness

Posted: Updated:

"We're going to turn them on backwards or something". That's Wes Welker talking about Depend ungergarments. It takes a "real man" to put their names behind that product and no one is going to debate the toughness of NFL stars Welker and Demarcus Ware. The two have been taking part in an online contest...the winner will have 50 thousand dollars donated to "The V Foundation" in their name.

Ware told Steve and Maria what he thinks about when he lines up and gets ready to, as Steve puts it, "terrify the quarterback". He also talks about being "The Hulk" on the field and laid back off the field. Welker talks about his new home in Denver after leaving the New England Patriots. He also talks about what he's thinking about when he goes to catch a pass and KNOWS he's going to get nailed.

They've spent months asking people to join their "teams" online and vote for them...the winner gets 50 thousand dollars donated to the V Foundation in their name.

Fun Facts about Demarcus Ware:

  • He is an American football defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted with the 11th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Troy University.
  • Ware attended Troy University, where he was a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection for the Troy Trojans football team.
  • He is the second fastest player ever to reach 100+ sacks (Reggie White is the fastest) and just the 29th player in history to do so.
  • Ware graduated from Troy with a degree in business information systems, becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college.

Fun Facts about Wes Welker:

  • He played college football for Texas Tech University and was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He later played for the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots.
  • Only one player in NFL history, Gale Sayers, had more all-purpose yards in his first three NFL seasons than Welker did with the Dolphins; Welker holds the Dolphins' all-time records for total kickoff returns, kickoff return yardage, and total punt returns.
  • As a Patriot, Welker led the league in receptions in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Welker holds the four highest single-season reception totals in Patriots history, as well as four of the top ten receiving yardage totals, including the franchise record.

This past April, Dallas Cowboys star DeMarcus Ware, and Denver Bronco Wes Welker, went head to head in the Depend Players Challenge asking consumers to join their "teams" online and vote for their favorite player for a good cause. The friendly competition was part of The Great American Try On.

Now, the fan favorite between DeMarcus and Wes is ready to be announced, and Depend will award the player with the most votes with a $50,000 donation in his name to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and the runner up a $25,000 donation as a participation prize. Both donations will be used to fund prostate cancer research.

The V Foundation is an organization actively searching for a cure for cancers like prostate cancer, because about 1 in 6 men are affected by the disease, which can often lead to bladder control issues. The Great American Try On aims to help restore the confidence and active lifestyle of the millions of Americans living with these issues.

While the competition might be over, consumers can still visit TheGreatAmericanTryOn.com to learn more and see how Wes and DeMarcus are helping to raise awareness.
