MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

A Minneapolis police officer was taken to the hospital Wednesday after being thrown from a horse and stepped on during a training exercise.

Police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said the accident happened at about 12:45 p.m. during a routine exercise at the MPD's special operations and training facility at 41st Ave. N. and Dupont Ave. N.

Barrington said the officer "got bumped" and fell off her horse. The horse then stepped on the officer, who was wearing a protective vest and helmet.

The officer was conscious after the incident but she was injured and in need of treatment. She was taken to North Memorial Medical Center and released Wednesday afternoon with no major injuries.
