Brookhaven to vote on millage tax rate

Posted: Updated:

One of Georgia's newest cities will soon vote on its first official millage rate.

Brookhaven City Council members held a public hearing on the millage issue Monday afternoon.

The city currently operates at a 3.35 mills tax rate for its interim budget, but has proposed a lower rate. Brookhaven's city charter prohibits the county from raising the rate above that.

The council approved a $16.5 million annual budget for expenses, including police, parks and recreation and public works.

The city will hold a final public hearing on the issue Tuesday at 7 p.m. before the council votes on adopting the new tax rate.
