One juvenile and three young adults could face charges after a kidnapping prank led police in Forest Lake, Minn. to release surveillance video in search of a suspect.
The incident was reported at 8:30 p.m. Sunday outside the Wal-Mart at 200 12th Street SW.
A witness told police they saw a dark-colored vehicle park in front of the store and open the trunk. The "victim" got out and ran along the front of the store, but the front seat passenger chased her down, grabbed her and put her into the trunk. The vehicle then sped out of the parking lot.
"The Forest Lake Police Department takes the safety of citizens as its highest priority and took every step to ensure we had done all that we could do to close this case with a successful ending," Capt. Greg Weiss said in a release. "Many hours were put into the investigation of this case and charges or referrals may be requested."
Forest Lake police put out a call for information on the suspect vehicle, but by Monday afternoon, they determined the "kidnapping" was a prank after the mother of one of the juveniles involved called about the incident at 2 p.m. on Monday.
Investigators say they also found video evidence of the prank on the phones of those involved.
