LAKE MINNETONKA, Minn. (KMSP) -

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating after two boats collided on Wayzata Bay in Lake Minnetonka on Sunday morning.

Officials say two boats, both estimated to be 22 feet long, collided about 200 yards from shore shortly before 10 a.m.

Investigators say both vessels were traveling in roughly the same direction when a runabout carrying four people collided with a deckboat carrying five.

A 2-year-old boy aboard the runabout was thrown into the water by the force of the crash, but he was wearing a life jacket and his father rescued him from the water.

A 7-year-old girl aboard the deckboat suffered a minor head injury and a woman also cut her foot in the crash.

Both boats were able to return and dock, but the deckboat did sustain fiberglass damage.
