Chicago's Most Wanted: Halloween mask robber

Posted: Updated:

This case has languished in the unsolved bin for two main reasons: the robber struck only once, and he was very careful to hide his identity.

But with the public's help the FBI is hoping to get the case solved.

The robbery happened in Waukegan in November 2012. A man walked into the North Shore Trust and Savings bank at 1233 North Green Bay Road on November 15th wearing a Halloween mask. Even though bank security cameras were able to get pictures of him, the man's face was completely covered. He also wore white gloves, so there were no fingerprints left behind.

This was what FBI agents call a takeover robbery. The man walked into the bank and, right away, displayed a weapon and announced the robbery. He approached the teller counter and demanded money, and then after getting cash, was seen on a security camera outside running away from the area.

Agents believe a someone in the public might recognize the combination of the Halloween mask and the blue winter jacket with a hood. Or perhaps someone knows a man who came into some unexplained money late in 2012. The FBI found the mask and the gloves and clothing the robber was wearing. The man discarded the items after leaving the bank.

The robber was seen running from the scene, so it possible he's from Waukegan. Bank robbers often operate in areas they are familiar with. But agents are not limiting their focus just to that area.

The FBI is offering a reward for information that helps to identify and arrest the man responsible for this robbery.

Here is the best description the FBI has for this bandit:

--Male, race unknown

--5'3'' to 5'5''

--Medium build.

The robber is considered a danger to the community, if you know who he might be, you are asked to contact the FBI or your local police.
