Roswell man critically injured by falling tree

ROSWELL, Ga. -

A Roswell man is fighting for his life after he was critically injured while cleaning up from a storm.

Jerry Gibree, 66, was doing some simple clean-up on the day after the storms two weeks ago and his home off of Jones Road when tragedy struck.

Gibree's son, Dr. Seth Gibree, says while removing limbs, a tree slid on top of his father, crushing his leg, his hand and causing multiple compound fractures.

"They told me after the fact that he at the point of death a number of times of different times during the surgery...it was after the fact I found that out," said Seth Gibree. "We knew it was very touch and go."

Two weeks later, Jerry Gibree -- who served in the Navy, Air Force and in Vietnam -- is recovering. He had to have his hand amputated last week and he was told on Monday that the same would happen to his leg.

"I had the conversation with my dad and I told him yesterday after the surgery and he said, ‘You know, this is God's plan for me and then we need to do what we need to do and let's move on and start focusing on moving forward,'" Seth Gibree said. "It's amazing to see the faith that my parents have and just and I mean even us as a family, just how just relying on that has just much a huge difference and it's almost like his ministry now. I think he feels that this is what God is using in him for, his purpose."
