Police seek ‘Simpsons’ vandal

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

They might not be having a cow, man, but property owners in downtown Naperville are being vexed by a vandal with an obvious affinity for the long-running, animated television series "The Simpsons."

Naperville Crime Stoppers on Friday offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information that will help police learn the identity of the prolific graffiti creator or creators.

Police this month have taken "numerous" reports concerning the graffiti, "with the bulk of the damage occurring in the downtown area, though similar incidents at other locations were reported as well," Sgt. Lou Cammiso said in a prepared statement.

"The graffiti/damage seems to center around the animated television show ‘The Simpsons,' and has appeared on concrete walls of businesses, electrical boxes and garbage Dumpsters," Cammiso said. "The artwork is extensive and time-consuming, and the ability to have it removed is very costly," he said.

The graffiti makes reference to "Simpsons" characters or depicts parts of their bodies — in one case, what appears to be the top of Bart Simpson's head.

Witnesses to any of the defacings, or those who believe they know the graffiti writer or writers, are asked to call Naperville Crime Stoppers at 630-420-6006. Callers can remain anonymous.
