LAPD Seeks 'Teardrop' Rapist For 35 Sex Assaults, $100,000 Reward

Los Angeles, CA -

Authorities are looking for new leads in the hunt for a serial rapist linked to more than two dozen sexual assaults in Los Angeles spanning more than 17 years.

Media sources report police have enlisted FBI profilers, offered a $100,000 reward and launched a Facebook page to help in the search for the man they've dubbed the "Teardrop" rapist.

Police say the suspect, who victims report has a tear tattoo on his face, left behind DNA in 10 of 35 attacks dating back to 1996. No clues emerged after the DNA was entered into a national database.

LAPD Capt. Billy Hayes tells the Times the attacker has struck in an area bordered by Melrose, Western and Alameda avenues and 103rd Street. Three of the 35 attacks occurred in unincorporated areas just outside the city.
