In honor of this year's 44th Peachtree Road Race, I decided to pull some WAGA coverage from another era.  An era when Americans used to win that little race through Buckhead and Midtown.

ATLANTA -

Atlanta police have finalized a massive security plan for the July 4 Peachtree Road Race.

With the terrorist attack in Boston still fresh in some people's minds, Mayor Kasim Reed and APD Chief George Turner have received commitments from the GBI and the GBI to provide back-up for Atlanta police.

Authorities will have surveillance cameras along the entire race route. Police officers and their K-9 companions will sanitize the route before runners arrive.

Police are asking that people not bring backpacks and packages to the race.

The increased security will extend beyond the finish line, police said. Commanders said that officers will be working around the city for nighttime festivities, including the fireworks shows.
