Wild, Backstrom agree on three year deal

Posted: Updated:

The Minnesota Wild announced today that they have agreed to terms with goaltender Niklas Backstrom on a three year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but according to the Star Tribune's Michael Russo  $10.25 million with a $3.42 million cap hit. The deal keeps the 35 year old net minder in Minnesota and answers one of the biggest questions heading into the offseason.

In his seven year career in Minnesota, Backstrom is the franchise leader in wins, shutouts, shutout streak (157:44), games played, starts (358) and minutes played (21,149).
