Friday Morning Rainfall Totals - KMSP-TV

Friday Morning Rainfall Totals

Posted: Updated:

What a wild morning… from winds in excess of 80mph, to claps of thunder louder than the roar of a packed Metrodome, to blinding rain, it's been crazy. But the story will likely switch from downed trees and power outages quickly over to flooding as we head through the weekend. With the ground already saturated from months of above average precipitation, several rounds of rain will not be handled well by the soil. This could lead to flash flooding and eventual river flooding if the rain really does persist into next week. Here are some of the larger totals from across the area and some rainfall buckets right here in the metro.

The good news with all of this moisture as it has almost erased the drought that was raging just a few weeks ago, especially into western Minnesota.

We will have more details on the continued drought conditions in the days to come. But here is a little different perspective on the rainfall we saw Thursday into Friday morning, and it might be something you haven't seen before. This is a map of radar estimated rainfall totals from 9am Thursday to 9am Friday produced by the National Weather Service.

Now, because these are radar estimates, your backyard totals will vary. However, it does give you a little bit better perspective on the areas that received more rainfall than others.
