CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are urging parents and community members to exercise caution after a man tried luring an 11-year-old girl into a car in the North Side Albany Park neighborhood.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday when the 11-year-old girl was walking her dog in the 3900 block of West Argyle Street, according to a community alert issued by Chicago police. As the girl headed west on Argyle, a man pulled his car over to the curb, rolled down the passenger window, waved to the girl and said, "Hey, hey you, come here," police said.

The girl turned and ran, heading through an alley to dodge the man, police said. Moments later she witnessed the man's vehicle speeding north in the 5000 block of North Springfield Avenue, she told police.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man in his 50s with black hair combed straight back and a "chubby face," police said. He was wearing a white button-down shirt and was driving a white two-door or four-door vehicle with a spoiler and rust on the bottom of the passenger door, police said.

Police ask that area residents report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. They also advise parents to not let their children walk alone and warn against talking to strangers or approaching strange vehicles.

Anybody with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8200.
