Suspect in cold case murder arraigned in Manhattan

More than two dozen family members packed a court room to support the daughter who never gave up on finding her father's killer. For the first time, Joselyn Martinez came face to face with the man she believes took her dad away from her when she was just a little girl.

Martinez and her mother, Idalia, were in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday for the arraignment of Justo Santos.

Martinez's work tracking down Santos on the Internet helped NYPD detectives locate him in Miami. She was just 9 years old in 1986 when her father, Jose Martinez, was gunned down outside his restaurant in Inwood.

Getting Santos in custody was a Father's Day gift to the man she has been missing most of her life.

In court, Santos pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and weapons possession. Prosecutors said they have an audiotape of him confessing to the crime in a phone call from 1987 and also a videotaped confession from this year.

The judge ordered Santos held without bail. His attorney said he maintains he is not guilty, and that they will try to put together a bail package. Santos goes back before the judge on August 13.
