Stillwater Lift Bridge to remain in down position, block some boat traffic

Posted: Updated:
STILLWATER, Minn. (KMSP) -

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is warning boaters to expect delays on the St. Croix River because the Stillwater Lift Bridge will remain in the down position until further notice.

Vehicle traffic on the bridge span will not be affected, but water traffic taller than 6 feet won't be able to cross under the bridge until crews can replace an operating cable.

On Sunday night, a bridge operator noticed a frayed cable on the lift system during the 8:30 p.m. lift and the future lifts have been suspended until repairs can be made.

MnDOT is currently seeking a replacement cable for the historic bridge, but once they do, it will take about a week for the installation to be complete, weather permitting.
