Late mobster's home searched

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

NYPD and FBI were searching a Queens home in connection with the infamous 1970s Lufthansa heist at JFK Airport.

The search is at the home the daughter of the last mobster Jimmy Burke owns.

Sources tell Fox 5 News that investigators are looking for possible human remains and other evidence.

The Lufthansa heist was a robbery at Kennedy Airport on Dec. 11, 1978. Nearly $6 million in cash and jewels were stolen. Burke, a member of the Lucchese crime family, planned the crime.

Burke allegedly ordered the killings of anyone who could implicate him in connection with the heists and several people connected to the case ended up dead.

Burke was convicted of murder and died of cancer in 1996.

Burke was the inspiration for the character played by Robert De Niro in the 1990 movie Good Fellas.

A Queens woman had some unexpected roommates living in her apartment: 50,000 bees. Beekeepers reportedly removed the swarm from Frieda Turkmenilli's ceiling this week after her neighbors in Queens alerted the building manager. Turkmenilli says she saw only a few bees buzzing around over the last few weeks and never realized how many had taken up residence right above her head.
