Interactive art 'MIMMI' wants to know how you're feeling

Posted: Updated:

Minneapolis Interactive Macro-Mood Installation, 'MIMMI', is a floating organism at the Minneapolis Convention Center that responds to the mood of Minneapolis.

MIMMI changes color, shape and behavior depending on residents' emotions. Hovering at 70 feet, MIMMI is "an emotional gateway to the city" and can sense the mood of the city, offering a fun way for visitors and residents to experience Minneapolis.

MIMMI uses an algorithm to sense keywords from social media feeds in Minneapolis, and projects the collective sentiment through graphics and colored displays. Emotions can include calmness, agitation, melancholy, happiness and several others.

M.A. Rosko gets a first-hand look at MIMMI and gains a whole new appreciation of the city's pulse.
