PHOENIX -

A valley man celebrated a very special gift this Father's Day: the unexpected arrival of his first daughter.

The little girl was born at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.

Little Daisy is only a few hours old, but she is already the apple of her daddy's eye.

"On our first baby, he took a little bit longer, I thought she as going to take longer. I thought maybe the middle of the night or something, tomorrow. I didn't think it was going to be this quick," said Pedro Najera.

Najera says his girlfriend went into labor early Sunday morning.

When the contractions started, he rushed her to the hospital and their baby was born a few hours later.

"My due day was supposed to be the 15th, but I guess she wanted to come on Father's Day," said Esmeralda Medina.

Anywhere from 18 to 21 babies are born here daily at Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Daisy was the first to be born on Father's Day.

"It's just something different and it makes them and their baby feel extra special, especially on Father's day," said Sara Weisenfeld.

Registered nurse Sara Weisenfeld is part of a staff that celebrates special arrivals, like Daisy, who already has dad wrapped around her little finger.

"I hope the best for her, to grow up and be something good and try to help her out the best I can, try to be there for her and my other son," said Najera.
