Some cable TV viewers face problems watching Blackhawks-Bruins Stanley Cup game

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Some Comcast cable customers trying to watch Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Blackhawks and Boston Bruins Saturday night found themselves suddenly unable to see the game.

The reason wasn't immediately clear, but some viewers of the NBC Sports channel apparently lost their connection to the HD version of the channel around 7:30 p.m. and had to settle for standard definition instead, according to frantic posts on Twitter.

Others reported their screens froze, then went to black.

The problem appeared to be short-lived.

"It's back on, and we're just trying to determine what the cause was," Comcast spokesman Jack Segal said around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Segal said only high definition was affected and that standard definition was fine.

He said he is trying to gather more details and determine whether Comcast was the only provider that suffered an HD outage.

Earlier, a Twitter user posted on the social networking site, "hd channel is dead now no picture or sound" and "No NBC Sports network for me."

Another tweeted: "Hello Comcast...why the #stanleycup outage in HD?!?!"

Yet another posted this: "Would NOT want to be a server at a Chicago area bar with Comcast right now."

Later, another tweeted: "I survived no HD!!"
