DETROIT (WJBK) -

Police cruisers crowded a community on Detroit's east side Thursday night in the neighborhood of Seven Mile and Strasburg. However, the situation started at Seven Mile and Hoover a little after 8:00 p.m.

Michigan State Police attempted to make a traffic stop, but instead of complying, we were told the driver and passenger bailed from the car and bolted. The driver was caught on the spot, but his passenger went running through the neighborhood packing an assault rifle.

Detroit Police and Michigan State Police devised a plan, set up a perimeter, searched the area and recovered the gun, an AK-47 according to a police source, and body armor, which is a good get for the good guys.

Police are still looking for that passenger, but they are confident they have his weapon. They will be talking with the driver, and hopefully that will lead to a second arrest.
