Water department fills hole in neighborhood after delay

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

An Atlanta resident who complained about a cavernous hole adjacent to her property got a response from City Hall on Thursday.

The grandmother called FOX 5 saying she was concerned about the safety of children playing nearby.

After FOX 5's Morse Diggs' story aired
, the water department dispatched an army of trucks to finish the job that started a month ago.

Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Bond said he was appalled at the situation.

"They said, ‘We opened the hole but we have not been back because it's not a priority.' Well, if it's not a priority, you shouldn't have opened the hole," Bond said.

Bond apologized to Clark.

City workers repaired what they called erosion and not a sewer cave as was first thought.

Officials said that the work would be complete within 24 hours if the weather cooperates.
