SUNNY TODAY, SMALL CHANCE OF RAIN FRIDAY MORNING

A hot and humid air mass remains in place today as we track the next cold front set to swing through by afternoon/evening.  Most of this day will be storm-free as temperatures soar into the low to mid 90s.  Clouds will build this afternoon and as a powerful cold front enters north Georgia, it will spark a nearly solid line of storms that will press southward through the metro area into the evening.

MORNING THROUGH NOON:

Mostly sunny skies will prevail and temperatures will warm up quickly.  Temperatures will be near 90 by noon with the humidity making it feel a few degrees warmer.

AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNSET:

Storms will enter the northern tier of counties of Georgia around 2pm-3pm.  These storms will likely bring briefly heavy rain and frequent lightning with the potential to produce damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and large hail.  This would prompt multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings through the afternoon.  These storms will march into metro Atlanta around 5pm-8pm, and then press south of I-20 from 7pm through 10pm.  While any storm can produce a brief torrential downpour, storms shouldn't last long enough in any one area to bring more than ½" of rain.

Much drier air will filter into the state overnight and leave us with a very pleasant day for mid-June tomorrow.  Highs will be in the cooler mid 80s with abundant sunshine and noticeably lower humidity.  Temperatures will start creeping up over the weekend, but skies should remain sunny for Saturday and Father's Day on Sunday.  A daily round of storms can be expected Monday through Wednesday.
