ANDOVER, Minn. (KMSP) -

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted and robbed while walking on a path in Bunker Hills Park in Andover, Minn. on Tuesday afternoon.

Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said the girl had been in the park with friends around 4 p.m., but the group parted ways as the girl walked to the north end of the park near an overlook on County C Parkway.

When checking her phone for text messages, she said she heard someone running up behind her, which was not a concern as she said the park was often full of runners. However, the suspect forcibly grabbed her and dragged her into the woods, telling her he would kill her if she screamed.

The suspect assaulted and robbed the girl before running away. The sheriff's office said there was no evidence of a sexual assault. The girl has been treated and released from the hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at 763-427-1212.

The park is posting fliers to give patrons and employees the heads up, while boosting patrols as much as they can.
