Man accused of kidnapping children back in jail

SUWANEE, Ga. -

A local father who sparked a nationwide manhunt is back in jail.

Daniel Cleary was arrested last December for kidnapping his two sons and taking them to Texas.

Cleary was released on bond on those abduction charges. Neither the boys nor their mother, Theresa Nash, have had any contact with him since then.

"He is currently under a bond restriction that prevents him from being within 10 miles of our home," said Nash.

On Monday, Cleary was arrested again after Suwanee say his 9-year-old son reported seeing him in the backyard of Nash's home with a knife.

Officers spotted Cleary and a chase began from Suwanee to Duluth with other agencies joining the pursuit.

During that time, Cleary called 911 and said that he just wanted to say goodbye to his boys and threatened to commit suicide.

Police performed a pit maneuver and stopped Cleary. Officers said he got out of the car and held a knife to his throat. A Suwanee officer then used a Taser on him.

Cleary is now back in jail, but his appearance has shaken Nash and his children.

"They're in the middle of a pretty long, pretty serious therapy program to recover from the kidnapping, and so this is just kind of hit them in the middle of this process, so it is a setback," Nash said.

Police said during the chase, Cleary had a copy of the bond order in the car with him that says he cannot come within 10 miles of the boy's home, so authorities say he knew he was breaking the rules.

Cleary was charged with reckless driving, aggravated stalking and DUI.
