A 41-year-old Robbinsdale Cooper High School hall monitor was arrested on Friday after the parents of a female student called police to report he had sexual relations with their daughter.
Robbinsdale police were contacted on Friday and arrested Tajreed Rich at an area home on the same day over the alleged relationship. The girl's age has not been released; however, police did confirm she is a minor.
Rich serves as a hall monitor and works in the attendance office at the school. He has been an employee of the district for two and a half years.
No formal charges have been filed against Rich so far, but officials have until noon on Tuesday to do so. In the meantime, police are continuing to investigate whether the relationship was ongoing or if this was a one-time incident.
The Robbinsdale School District released the following statement regarding the incident:
"This is a horrible incident, and the district finds acts such as this reprehensible. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and our hearts go out to the family during this time. Robbinsdale Area Schools and Cooper High School are working closely with police on this matter, and we will continue to support Cooper students and families during this time."
The district also sent out a voicemail to parents confirming the arrest.
Rich remains in the Hennepin County Jail, where he is being held on third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
