Democrat Judy Adams jumps into 6th District race

CIRCLE PINES, Minn. (KMSP) -

Judy Adams, an environmental activist from Circle Pines, Minn., announced Monday she will seek the Democratic endorsement to run for Congress in Minnesota's 6th District.

Adams is the first Democrat to jump into the race after Jim Graves dropped his candidacy, citing "mission accomplished after Rep. Michele Bachmann said she wouldn't seek another term.

Adams is a political rookie, having never run for public office, but said her experience with activism helped her understand the process.

Adams said she's unlikely to run in the DFL primary if she can't get the party endorsement.

Last week, radio host and former gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer announced his candidacy for Bachmann's seat. Emmer, a Republican, said he wants to follow in Bachmann's footsteps by fighting "the ever-growing size of government."
