CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two South Side men have been charged with murder in connection with the late 2011 shooting of a man who died a few months later.

Robert Goodman, 20, and Demetrius Spencer, 21, were each charged with first degree murder, according to police News Affairs.

Bernard Welch, 20, was on a street corner in the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue when a male assailant came out of a gangway and shot him in the chest and back about 6:35 p.m. Nov. 30, 2011, police said at the time.

Welch, of the 7700 block of South Wolcott Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he died Jan. 9, 2012, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Spencer was ordered held without bail Saturday and is next scheduled to appear in court Thursday. Bond information for Goodman was not immediately available.
