DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

It took a three-day hearing and several mental health exams but a judge has ruled trial can proceed for a Detroit woman charged in the deadly stabbing of her daughter.

Semeria Greene was found mentally competent to stand trial in the death of her 8-year-old daughter in December. The stabbing happened about five weeks after court officials turned down a request by the state to remove Tameria Greene and her siblings from their home. The girl's 4-year-old brother told police he witnessed Tameria being stabbed.

Greene previously had been found incompetent for trial and was ordered to undergo several mental health exams.

Defense attorney Cornelius Pitts says he plans to appeal the judge's latest decision. A preliminary exam on the murder charges is set for August 7.
