Powerball winner has yet to step forward

ZEPHYRHILLS (FOX 13) -

It's been two weeks since a $590 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in Zephyrhills, and still no winner has claimed the prize.

The mystery millionaire is still the talk of the town in Zephyrhills.

"I prefer someone who doesn't have a lot of money and stuff like that to win it," said Hagger Dixon of Zephyrhills.

"If I had that kind of money I wouldn't want anybody harassing me chasing me. I'd probably wait until it all dies down," said Ronald Reichert of Zephyrhills.

Whoever holds that magic ticket has 60 days from the date of the drawing to claim the $370 million cash option and six months to get the $590 million paid in full over 30 years.

They certainly aren't in any rush, which according to lottery officials, is a good thing.

"It's a great idea to take your time," said Mike Purcell of the Florida Lottery. "Meet with attorneys, financial advisors, have your ducks in a row before you show up."

As it turns out, there's no one way to become a Powerball millionaire.

Cindy and Mark Hill of Missouri won a $293 million Powerball jackpot in November of last year.

They picked up their winnings the day after the drawing took place.

The Cheney and West families of Oregon took a different route.

When the two families shared a $340 million prize in 2005 they didn't come forward for 30 days.

And if you think a Zephryhills no-show means that gives you another chance to hit it big, think again.

"The money that was pooled goes back in proportion to the states in which it was played, in Florida that's probably 9-10%," said Purcell.

If the winner has a plan, they seem to be sticking to it.

When they're ready to collect, Florida Lottery officials will be waiting.

"We want someone to call us, give us a call lets talk about what you need to do," said Purcell.

That $590 million winner isn't the only local Powerball millionaire waiting to claim their prize.

There was also a $50 million winner in Carrollwood from May 25 who has yet to cash that big check.
