Braves' 'Heritage Weekend' kicks off

ATLANTA -

Atlanta's rich civil rights history will be commemorated over the weekend at Turner Field.

The inaugural Atlanta Braves Heritage Weekend kicked off on Friday with a "Champions for Justice' panel discussion inside the 755 Club.

The first two recipients' of the Hank Aaron Champions for Justice award were civil rights icon Andrew Young and Sen. Leroy Johnson.

Proceeds from the event benefit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

The Braves' Heritage Weekend runs through Sunday during Atlanta's series versus the Washington Nationals.
