Annual wreath ceremony held in Huntington, L.I.

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Town of Huntington held its annual Memorial Day wreath ceremony Sunday honoring those who fought and died for freedom.

The ceremony took place on the front lawn of the town hall.

One poignant moment on Sunday was a father and son, Army Sgt. Michael J. Schmitt, Sr. and U.S. Marine Cpl. Michael J. Schmitt, Jr., who both just returned from serving tours in the Middle East -- where among those in attendance.

    For the second time this month, a pilot has had to land his troubled single-engine plane on the same highway in Suffolk County, police said. Frank Fierro took off from Lufker/Spadaro Airport in East Moriches Friday afternoon but very quickly had to make an emergency landing on Sunrise Highway at about 12:50 p.m. because of engine trouble, police said.

Riveted together in Hamburg, Germany, for the German Navy, the Eagle earned its American citizenship when the United States seized it after World War II.
