Installation of bike station gets cars towed, ticketed

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

When workers installed one of the much-heralded bike-sharing stations on West 22nd Street near 10th Avenue, they put it right in front of the brownstones, impacting the entrances for homeowners and tenants.

Residents complained, and the city agreed. This week, workers moved the kiosk, which will hold 31 bicycles, to the other side of the street, next to Clement Park.

The problem with moving the racks to this side of the street was that there were cars legally allowed to park here. So, what did the city do to make this happen? They towed those cars, which means that some of the cars were placed in metered spots, which also means that some of the owners received tickets -- $65 or more a pop.

Adding insult to injury, residents say the car owners were never even told that their vehicles had been moved until they went outside and noticed they were gone.

We called the DOT about the car towing. The department says it will assist the car owners who have complained in contesting the ticket.

Things are looking up for cute little Cami King. Not only is her cancer in remission, she also just got to meet Mickey, Minnie and Elmo in Times Square. But, if you can believe it, there's something else this 4-year-old is even more excited about: Times Square is going gold. The chairman of the Times Square Advertising Coalition announced the crossroads of the world is going to light up in gold to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
