GILBERT, Ariz. -

High school graduations are happening all across the valley. It's a big night for teens and their families. But it was extra special for a grad in Gilbert who received a special surprise.

A Marine flew home to surprise his little sister at her graduation. His father picked him up at the airport just this afternoon.

20-year-old Lance Corporal Evan Earlywine has been deployed overseas for about a year and a half.

"Taylor believes Evan was stuck in Japan and wasn't able to come home," said dad Kevin Earlywine.

"I was kind of worry she already knew cause it's hard to keep that a secret," said LCPL Evan.

His sister Taylor Earlywine had no idea he was coming home. Little did she know her brother would be presenting her with her diploma. When he did, there was a standing ovation. They shared a big hug.

"I was so surprised and shocked. I had no idea. As soon as I saw him, I was like oh my God," says Taylor.

Evan's younger sister was in the audience and also didn't know he was coming home. Earlywine's parents kept this secret for 5 months.

FOX 10's Jill Monier reports.
