12-Year-Old Talks About Surviving Gunshot To Head

Posted: Updated:

"If I die please take me to Heaven not to Hell."

After a near death experience 12-year-old Ibn Anderson showed us how he got down on one knee and prayed for his life.

Bandages hide the bullet wounds from a .38 caliber gunshot to his head suffered two weeks ago at his Crestbury apartment in Camden.

Police say Ibn's 11-year-old HB Wilson Elementary School classmate accidentally shot him in the face.

"I guess he grabbed it from one of these shelves," said Ibn pointing in his room he shares with his 19-year-old brother. He says he knew nothing about the gun his friend found on a shelf beneath a pile of clothes. "I heard boom! That's when I looked down and I  saw all the blood on my hand"

After the shock wore off, "I was thinking about what happened and not dying," said Ibn who told us he he raced to the bathroom mirror. Realizing the mounting pain and pressure was from a bullet to the head.

"I was scared but I  wasn't trying to panic too much."

"It missed his brain by half an inch," Zakiyyah Anderson, Ibn's mom.

She was walking her daughter to the school bus stop that Friday morning her son was shot and airlifted to Trenton, then back to Cooper for treatment. She says he suffered damage to his nasal passage.

Ibn just happy his prayers were answered for a second chance at life.

"Man I'm thankful I'm still living and that I can smell and hear. "
