Day-care operator gets prison term in tax case

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - A Kingman day-care operator has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay $318,000 of restitution after pleading guilty to a federal tax charge.

Raycene Rosencrans Osterman was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court on her guilty plea last November to the charge of failing to pay the government for taxes she had collected from workers.

The Kingman Daily Miner reports that the 55-year-old woman acknowledged she repeatedly promised an IRS agent that she would deposit the overdue amounts but never did.

The IRS warned the Kingman woman as early as 2005 that she could face criminal charges if she didn't make good on the back taxes.
