City Narcotics Cop Busted with $15,000 In Sting Operation

PHILADELPHIA -

Veteran narcotics officer Jeff Walker was part of some of Philadelphia's most celebrated drug raids, including a huge marijuana bust that netted $1.5 million dollars in pot.

Now, Walker finds himself on the wrong side of the law.

"Anytime we can rid our ranks of a corrupt cop, I think it's a good day," Commissioner Charles Ramsey told FOX 29 on Wednesday after Walker's arrest in a joint Internal Affairs-FBI investigation.

On Wednesday morning, detectives and FBI agents descended on Walker's Overbrook Farms home on the 6400 block of Woodcrest after the narcotics officer was caught on tape in a sting operation involving an alleged ripoff at a drug dealer's house Tuesday night.

"Taking $15,000 and approximately 5 pounds of marijuana out of that house," Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony Wzorek told reporters after Walker was ordered held without bail until a detention hearing next Tuesday.

"This involves drugs and ripping off drug dealers. I know about this case, don't know if he's done anything like this in the past," Ramsey said.

Walker is a 24-year veteran of the force and has had his share of federal lawsuits related to a controversial drug squad that made major arrests across Philadelphia.

Ramsey is concerned about past drug cases being impacted.

"We're certainly looking into that to see if this is something more that he's been involved in," Ramsey added.

Walker has been suspended with intent to dismiss. He faces major federal charges that could put him behind bars for decades.

"In addition to that, I've already sent notice that we should freeze his pension and try to take that. He was on duty at the time," Ramsey said.

Neighbors were stunned by Walker's arrest.

"He's a good guy that got wrapped up in something. That's a shame," one neighbor told FOX 29.

Court papers indicate that Walker admitted his role in Tuesday's drug ripoff. Some are now wondering if he will cooperate with city and federal investigators to root out any more corruption by narcotics officers.
