North Minneapolis continues to rebuild after 2011 tornado - KMSP-TV

North Minneapolis still needs help rebuilding after 2011 tornado

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Two years ago, a devastating tornado swept through north Minneapolis.

While many residents and families have tornado safety plans in place, a tornado can rip apart a sense of safety when it strikes 3,700 homes and leaves two dead.

The Twin Cities United Way is recognizing the May 22, 2011 tornado by reminding members of the community of the ongoing cleanup and restoration.

As part of the restoration effort, the Minnesota Helps - North Minneapolis Recovery Fund - in collaboration with Greater Twin Cities United Way, The Minneapolis Foundation and GiveMN.org - has raised over $1.75 million to support the recovery of 60,000 North Minneapolis residents affected by the tornado.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Donations can fund bus rides for a resident who lost his or her car, create storm safety kits to help kids feel secure and provide repairs for damaged homes.
