Fire at South St. Paul airport damages planes, hangar

SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

A hangar caught fire at Fleming Field in South St. Paul. late Monday morning. The fire was reported around 11 a.m. at the airport about 10 miles south of downtown St. Paul.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Erickson said a person was working on his single-engine plane inside a hangar at the airport when the aircraft caught fire and spread to the hangar.

The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported.

The hangar is a total loss, and there was some damage to the hangars on each side of the unit and minor damage to another small plane in the hanger next door.

Fleming Field is owned and managed by the city of South St. Paul.
