2 killed in Chicago Heights fire

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people were killed in a south suburban fire early Friday, authorities said.

A man and a woman, both believed to be in their 50s, were killed in the blaze in the 200 block of East 24th Street in Chicago Heights, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The medical examiner's office could not immediately determine their identities or exact ages.

The man was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. and the woman at 2:52 a.m., both at St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Chicago Heights.

The Chicago Heights fire department said firefighters were still on the scene as of 4:45 a.m., but declined to comment further.
