Newark student shot and killed

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

A student at Weequahic High School in Newark, N.J., was shot and killed a short time after leaving the school on Wednesday, said police.

He was walking along Aldine Street when a car pulled up, someone got out and shot him dead.

At another Newark school, students were placed on lockdown after three men ran inside and went straight to the principal's office to escape two thugs who were chasing them, officials said.

Newark police searched Louise A. Spencer School on Muhammad Ali Avenue to make sure the intruders were not inside. They apparently took off after being confronted by security guards and school workers.

The incident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m.

The lock down ended about an hour later and students were released to their scared and rattled parents and guardians.

Police say the student who was shot and killed was targeted.

No arrests have been made.
