CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A former Maine West High School soccer coach has been charged with multiple misdemeanor counts involving the battery and hazing of players on his team.

Michael Divincenzo, former varsity coach, turned himself in to Des Plaines police on Wednesday morning, according to Sally Daly, spokeswoman for the state's attorney's office.

Divincenzo, who has been fired, and freshman soccer coach Emilio Rodriguez have denied to police any knowledge of hazing claims at the district, police reports show. Reached Wednesday morning by phone, Divincenzo had no comment.

Divincenzo has been accused of sanctioning a hazing culture at the school that allegedly led to the sexual assault of at least three soccer players and one baseball player, according to a lawsuit filed last year. The suit was sparked by an alleged hazing in September in which multiple soccer players said older players sodomized them with fingers and sticks.

Divincenzo told police on Nov. 13 that he became aware of an incident in September only after Rodriguez texted him and told him a freshman player was "pantsed."
