Through 33 games, the Minnesota Twins have exceeded the expectations of fans and media types alike. A year ago, the Twins were 9-24 and almost mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. One year later, and the team is above 500 and in the mix in the AL Central.
Here's what I love as we dive (cue sound effects) inside the numbers:
In their wins, the Twins are outscoring their opponents by 60 runs (3.33 per game) while in their losses, they are being outscored by 53 runs (3.11 per game). Basically they have been in almost every game they have played. The Twins have only been outscored by more than four runs in five of their 33 games down from 12 a year ago.
Aaron Hicks had a monster game vs. Chicago last night. The center fielder blasted two home runs, then robbed Adam Dunn of one in the sixth inning. It was a rough start for Hicks, but he might be finding his groove.
Nadine Babu (@NadineBabu) of gopherhole.com is tracking the potential transfer of a current Gopher hoopster. We'll monitor the situation as the day moves along, but you can follow it here at the gopherhole.com
Speaking of Gophers hoops, the U put out a great promo video about coach Richard Pitino. He shares his insight on his philosophy, recruiting and staff selection. For this hoops guy, November can't get here soon enough.(see above)
Brian Urlacher is rumored to be talking with the Vikings. I honestly believe there is no other professional team that takes more pride in taking players from other teams in the division than the Vikings. Yes, there are still questions with the linebacker spot. Adding Urlacher doesn't answer any of them, he simply adds more.
A week from today, the Lynx will begin their "Redemption Road" tour with a noon pre-season game against Connecticut. I love the re-tooled lineup and am excited to watch the reunion of Lindsay Whalen and Janel McCarville. Maya Moore looks absolutely amped and ready to bring Minny another championship come October.
Lynx.com's Mark Remme has a great one-on-one interview with Seimone Augustus and gets into Training Camp and preparations for the first preseason game this Saturday in Minot ND.
